Substance abuse and disturbing behavior in public places and in public transport create insecurity which is often compensated with more control. Surveillance increases safety, but safety is also created by trusting people around us – other citizens. Together, caring for each other, we can create a safe and comfortable public space for everyone.
Everyone’s city -campaign aims to increase the sense of security and comfort in public places and in public transport. During the campaign, the citizens are asked to share their experiences and memories of public places. Helsinki Poetry Connection uses these real-life stories to create poems. These poems will be presented in public place related to the campaign.
Everyone’s city -campaign was held first time in Autumn 2018 in public transport in Helsinki, where poems were performed in Helsinki metro. In Autumn 2019 campaign was brought to public transport in Turku, where poems were performed in light traffic ferry M/S Jaarli in Aurajoki river. In Autumn 2019 the campaign will be held again in Helsinki, this time focusing on public libraries. Poems will be performed in the National Library of Finland, Oodi, 27 October.
The campaign is organized by The Network for Preventive Substance abuse work together with Måndag and different cooperation partners.
