Gimby - Gardening In My Backyard

A communal gardening service for urban citizen

Gimby was first launched in spring 2013. Now the gardening service is renewed and it joined forces with Kekkilä gardening products.

As the chinese proverb goes, the most important thing in life is gardening. Especially for those who don’t have a garden of their own. Gimby and Kekkilä wants to provide the possibility of gardening to as many as possible: to plant, to seed, to grow and harvest - and even better, do it together! Learn from the masters, and enjoy of all that the different seasons have to offer. Dream green, and finally savor the fruits of the land. We want to cultivate happy gardeners. We want, that everyone has the opportunity to be a Gimby.

There is a growing need of gardens in the cities. Urban green thumbs hunger for the chance to dig into the dirt and plant fresh, homemade vegetables, flowers or fruits. Unfortunately there is not enough legal land to harvest - and not everyone is up to guerrila gardening. At the same time there are those with gardens too hard to maintain. Senior citizens, families with small children, or people with disabilities are in the need of help. Also, long summer holidays can be a garden disaster. So, here comes Gimby to the rescue!

Gimby is a barter economy based, communal service. One gives the land for gardening and the other gives the work and sweat for the crop. Everyone wins. The recommendation is one square metre per each hour of work.

How the service works? Sign in on our website and make your own profile under a pseudonym on the wall. Add the necessary information such as the size and the location of your garden or your work. Or, sign in and go through the profiles, and if you think you found your match send the lucky one a message. Gimby provides the platform to interact and gives the friends of gardening free hands to decide all about the practical issues, such as when, where and what. Our goal is to help all the Gimbys and the green thumbs out there to connect easily.
