Art schools are being shut down, the roles of artists are being argued about and the borders of art grow less clear. Simultaneously the media is in transition and city planning is living a new reneissance. People want to occupy the cities for themselves. New events are popping up and the entrenched structures of the public administration are being questioned.
Lots of great things are happening and the urban culture is evolving also in Finland. How does this affect art? Could art be part of the structures of society? How can the artists find new places to work and obtain new audience? Should the art education be modified? What is the artist’s job and what does it produce? What does an economist need art for?
Måndag is organizing an Art, what the f***-workshop on the 31.8.2013, as a part of the UrbanApa-festival. Do you want to participate? We are looking for young creative people to discuss and plan. During the event we will brainstorm new models of action and get to know each other. The final results will be used in the following UrbanApa events. More information here.
UrbanApa is a festival of urban arts, that presents fresh visions, unforeseen performance concepts and young talents from the field of performative arts. In addition to culture houses and traditional art stages UrbanApa works outside of them, searching actively new places for art from urban environment. UrbanApa is not an annual, familiar and safe festival but a different and surprising series of activities, taking over the city, one act of art at the time.
Behind the UrbanApa-festival is Murha-collective, a group of young artists from Helsinki who have worked on the field of art since 2007.
