Building trust for a sustainable seafood label

Marine life and sustainable fishing have been gaining attention in the past years due to people waking up to plastic pollution and a growing amount of endangered species. We organised a recipe competition for kids to raise awareness of Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) actions in Finland and to celebrate baltic herring, the first Finnish fish to get MSC’s sustainable fishing certificate. Approaching the topic from kids’ point of view also highlighted the point that we need to really start thinking what kind of world we leave for the next generations.

It is about time to give baltic herring, a very traditional fish, a makeover.

We asked the young to create their own dishes using baltic herring in a competition for a chance to win a 3-month ticket to Allas Sea Pool. The competition didn’t only offer an opportunity to go swim in Helsinki’s hippest pool, but gave the young a chance to influence the eating habits by choosing Finnish, wild and sustainable fish.

In a world where people increasingly care about where their seafood comes from, the MSC label makes it easy to select sustainable, wild seafood you can trust.
